VIETNAM AND THE "NEW GENERATION" FTAs: TRENDS AND SOLUTIONS

In recent years, Vietnam has joined a number of “new generation” FTAs, especially the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the FTA between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA), the FTA between Vietnam and the United Kingdom (UKVFTA), and The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). This brings great opportunities for Vietnam’s trade and investment, as well as positively impacts Vietnam's economy through the expansion of export markets and the attraction of FDI. However, participating in the “new generation” FTAs also means that Vietnam has entered the big playing field, accepting to cope with new difficulties and challenges. This article analyzes the trends of “new generation” FTAs, opportunities and challenges for Vietnam's trade and investment, thereby proposing some solutions for Vietnamese enterprises to take advantages of the opportunities and limit the challenges in implementing the commitments of the new generation FTAs in the coming time
